Joy Gurudeb

Fakira has always wanted to experiment with various avenues of music. We have tried to cultivate different streams of music since we started our journey as a band. It was our dream since long to perform Rabindra Sangeet in a different style. This dream has finally seen the ray of light after our second album Hare Krishna launched last year.

We have worked with four songs of Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore in this E.P. called ‘Joy Gurudeb’ . Out of these, lyrics of one song called ‘Hori ki die’ was written by Rabindranath himself and he requested Shri Nabani Das Baul, father of Shri Purna Das Baul, to compose music for it in the Baul genre. This was because not everyone could perform Rabindra Sangeet at that time owing to various restrictions but Rabindranath wanted his songs to spread among the Baul community. We have arranged that Rabindra Sangeet composed in Baul music genre in our own style. We hope we would be able to satisfy you through our effort.
