Itorpona

Itorpona

After starting our journey as a Band, we felt the urge to record our first album. But we were quite immature at that time and so we had no idea how to record or release our album.

Once when we were travelling along the hilly areas of our state, Timir and Bunty got engaged in a fight wherefrom the idea of our first album ‘Itorpona’ emerged.

We have always wanted to give the best experience to our audience. From that thought we started recording our first album in one of the finest studios of Kolkata which was quite expensive. But we were new as a band so we didn’t have much economical support nor did we have funds of our own. So we started taking loan from our close friends to pave the journey of our first album.

Recording was completed after around 3/4 months of incessant effort. Thereafter we approached our friend Subhadip who was an established Sound Engineer at Mumbai at that time. Subhadip at once agreed to mix master our album. Finally, with the support of Major Seventh, our first album ‘Itorpona’ was released from Hindustan Records or InReco.

There is a story behind the name of our album ‘Itorpona’. Our friend Shaon Ganwala from Bangladesh played us the song ‘Itorpona’ composed by Lalon Fakir and we were deeply moved by it. After returning from Bangladesh we arranged the song in our own preferred way and included it in our album. But that time even we didn’t have any idea that the very name of our album will be after this song. When we were worried about the nomenclature of our album, one day our friend and the famous film director Shamik Roy Chowdhury suggested us to name our album after this song. We loved the idea at once and named our album ‘Itorpona’.

The response from friends and the whole audience after release of the album was overwhelming. They supported ‘Itorpona’. Moreover, they loved ‘Itorpona’. In 2015, ‘Itorpona’ won the prestigious Mirchi Music Award. The Honorable Judges could not categorise the album in any particular segment, nor could they restrain themselves from awarding ‘Itorpona’. Thus, ‘Itorpona’ won the Mirchi Music Award on Special Jury Nomination.

Itorpona showed us the way to our prolonged journey and in this journey it engraved its name in the heart of many. Bengali Kawali song has seen the light of day from this album. If we go by mere statistics, it is seen that after release of ‘Itorpona’ and post 2013/14 the culture to practice Bengali folk music and form Bengali Folk bands has increased a lot.

‘Itorpona’ has left a long term influence not only in our personal lives but also in the world of Bengali folk music. People now tend to listen to Bengali folk songs with greater interest and there lies the main success of ‘Itorpona’.
