Avirup Das (Bunty)
Apart from being a musician, Bunty is also a collector of traditional musical instruments from all over the world. He currently has over seventy instruments and his collection is only growing day by day. Not only does Bunty collect instruments but he also preserves their history, their lore and their playing style.
Bunty was born in Kolkata around the end of the eighties. Being born in a musical family he was quickly put into rigorous training for percussion instruments. Growing up with these instruments led to Bunty developing an interest in designing and creating his own percussion instruments. It is safe to say that currently any traditional music show in Bengal is incomplete or virtually impossible without Bunty performing.
Bunty has been an integral part of Fakira right from its inception. His deep knowledge in traditional percussive instruments of Bengal and his research and experiments on ways to use them innovatively has elevated Fakira’s sound with added detail and richness. Bunty has thus successfully infused various traditional instruments such as the Dubki, Hang Drum and the Darbuka amongst many other instruments into the music of Fakira.
